Pair lift sponsorship
By ANDREW BRASIER
MONTMORENCY FNC has plenty of unsung heroes who work behind the scenes with no
outside recognition and zero pay. At the recent (October 12) best and fairest presentation the club
decided to celebrate the contribution of two of these volunteers - sponsorship drivers Nigel Pearson
(pictured left) and Andrew Newland. The hard-working pair, who have helped to lift the club's
sponsorship levels, were presented with the Fred Squire Award at Bobby McGee's, recognising
the efforts of a person or persons who go to extraordinary lengths to help the NFNL Magpies.
Club vice-president and sponsorship chief Mark "Bluey'' Smith praised the efforts of the duo who have
strong business backgrounds.
"I have known both of them since childhood and I asked them three years ago to give me a chop-out
(with sponsorship),'' Smith says. "The work they have done has turned out to be massive. Nigel has
driven as far away as Port Melbourne to deliver a plaque and sponsors package to a sponsor. Their
business acumen has allowed them to connect with businesses and pick up more sponsorships
for the club. The award is a fitting honor for them.''
