THE NFL Magpies have served further notice that they will be aiming to play finals in 2018 by signing former Richmond and Port Adelaide star Matt White.
Mont coach Ben Haynes said the pacey and versatile utility would substantially strengthen an already talented senior squad.
White, who returned to Melbourne's northern suburbs after leaving Port at the end of the 2017 season, joins former Collingwood and Melbourne small forward Ben Kennedy, who will also make his Mont debut in 2018.
White, who racked up a total of 152 AFL senior games, made his debut for Richmond in 2006 and played 104 games for the Tigers before transferring to Port Adelaide in 2014 . He played 48 games for the Power which included the AFL goal of the year in his first year at Port. (check link https://www.Youtube.Com/Watch?V=FPqoirbtsqw
Mont president Greg Bowman said White would provide all Magpie supporters with great entertainment on a Saturday afternoon given his blistering pace and superb ball skills.
Coach Haynes said White was in an extremely durable player. He added that White comes into season 2018 in great condition and is primed to make a big impact upon the Northern Football Netball League Division One competition.
"He will provide great leadership,'' said Haynes, who shared the same footy management company as White. Haynes played for Richmond then Essenson in the early 2000s. "He is a contested ball player who distributes the ball well. He will play a variety of roles including through the midfield and up forward where he is a noted goal-kicker at AFL level.''
