Nik's big night
MONTMORENCY senior women's team capped off a successful comeback year when its star player Nicole Blythe (pictured below).
recently took out the NFLW's Division Two best and fairest award.
The highly skilled midfielder scored 21 votes - the same number as her co-wnners Natarsha Bamblett (West Preston
Lakeside) and Rechelle McSwain (South Morang) - at the Northern Football League's awards and presentation night.
Blythe was a stand-out player for the NFL Magpies throughout the season, which saw the club make the finals after a
year's recess (in season 2016). The club had previously won a Victorian Women's Footbll league flag in 2014 and been runner-up in 2015.
Mont senior women's team manager and mother of the medal winner, Gail Blythe, said her daughter's success was a
testament to the strength of the Magpies' senior and junior feamle programs
"This year was a great year for women's and girls' footy at Mont,'' Blythe senior said. "Nicole is a product of our
successful junior program.''
Mont had four teams - under 12, under 14, under 16 and under 18 - contest grand finals, with two (the under 16 and
under 18) snaring premierships.
"We were rapt to have four sides make grand finals. The good news for the future of Mont is that several of the under
18 girls will graduate to the seniors next year and in future years.''
